Masterpieces on paper
The most beautiful depictions of Leidschendam, Voorburg and Stompwijk. The exhibition Masterpieces on Paper presents a selection from the museum's collection of prints and drawings, featuring cityscapes through the centuries. From old skylines of Voorburg to lively streets from modern times. Let yourself be carried away by the imaginative depictions of the recognisable places. Each work shows how the artists captured the region in their own unique way. How do you see the region?
A walk through time
In Masterpieces on Paper, you not only see through the eyes of artists, but also through the lens of everyday life. A special selection of postcards from the collection of historian Kees van der Leer shows how the surroundings of Voorburg have changed over the years. His daily walks along the Vliet and through Voorburg mean that he knows the area like no other, across all periods of time. As you gaze at the old maps, it feels as if you are walking through the history of the places yourself.
Mission
MissionThis exhibition is the result of a large-scale researchproject of the collection carried out over the past year by the staff and volunteers of the Huygens Museum. During this project, forgotten gems were rediscovered, which now have a place in the exhibition. Many of the works depict the development of the Leidschendam, Voorburg and Stompwijk region. That is why it was decided to start with the cityscapes. Many of the monuments depicted on the postcards, prints and drawings no longer exist. The exhibition therefore offers not only a nostalgic look at the past, but also a reflection on the present. The works on display call for a conscious and careful approach to the region's heritage.
